What it does
Gotta Go Fast replaces the server check that throws a "Player moved too quickly!" error. It lets you set how fast a player, an elytra, or a vehicle can move before the server resets the position. The mod is server-side only, so clients don't need to install it.
Why you might want it
If you run a server where players use fast travel, speed-boosting mods, or custom vehicles, the vanilla check can kick them out of the world. With Gotta Go Fast you can raise the limits to match your gameplay style. The default values are the vanilla ones, so you can start low and increase slowly to avoid giving players an unfair advantage.
How it works
The mod reads a simple JSON config. You can set:
- playerLimit - the maximum speed a player can travel.
- playerFallFlyingLimit - the speed limit while flying.
- vehicleLimit - the maximum speed a vehicle can move.
- vehicleDistanceLimit - the distance a vehicle can travel before the server resets it.
The server checks these values each tick. If a player or vehicle exceeds the set limit, the server teleports them back to the last safe position.
Compatibility
- Loader: Fabric
- Minecraft versions: 1.19, 1.19.1, 1.19.2, 1.19.3, 1.19.4, 1.20, 1.20.1
- Side: Server-side only
- License: GNU GPL v3.0 or later
The mod is not supported on client-side, and it won't work on other loaders such as Forge.
Getting started
Download the latest release from Modrinth. Look, place the JAR in your server’s mods folder and restart. Open the gottagofast.json file to tweak the limits.
Caveats
From version 1.1.0 onward the mod does nothing by default. The config values revert to vanilla limits until you change them. If you set the limits too high, players might use speed hacks. Test slowly and monitor server logs for any unexpected teleportations.
