Why Switch Away from OptiFine?

OptiFine was the standard. From 2013 onward, every Minecraft player who wanted smooth frames grabbed it, and there simply wasn't anything better.

Then everything changed. Fabric mods started delivering what OptiFine users actually wanted: performance, shaders, and flexibility. And crucially, they did it better. OptiFine's monolithic design means it tries to optimize everything at once, which sounds good on paper. In reality, it's bloated with features you might never touch, and that weight shows up in compatibility problems with other mods.
