LightSpeedRe

autor: kltyton

LightSpeedRe is a client-side Minecraft optimization mod that speeds up game startup for Forge 1.20.1 and NeoForge 1.21.1 by caching resource packs and using concurrent loading.

What this mod does

Waiting for a heavily modded client to start can take minutes. Heavy modpacks often strain the loading pipeline with hundreds of individual files and assets. LightSpeedRe is an unofficial port of the original LightSpeed mod designed to shorten those launch waits.

On tested setups, the project description notes launch time reductions between 48% and 71%. It focuses entirely on the boot cycle. Once Minecraft finishes loading and lands on the title screen, the mod has completed its main work.

How it cuts startup times

The original LightSpeed project relied on several core strategies to speed up launch times. Honestly, it focused on reducing file system read operations, caching computed data, and running suitable startup processes in parallel. What you get also displayed the total launch time directly on the title screen so players could check their load durations.

When porting the mod to newer releases, the author adjusted the feature set. Vanilla Minecraft 1.20.1 already includes its own model-baking improvements that older versions lacked. Because the base game handled that part, LightSpeedRe removed those older model-baking modifications. And it keeps the dedicated resource-pack cache, which continues to speed up asset loading during launch.

The port also adds high-concurrency loading routines. By handling eligible loading tasks concurrently across available CPU threads, the game spends less time blocked on single-threaded file processing.

Platform support and requirements

LightSpeedRe is strictly a client-side mod. You install it locally in your client mods directory. Server side is unsupported, so you should never place the file into a dedicated server environment.

The developer maintains ports for two specific loader and version setups:

  • Minecraft 1.20.1 running on Forge
  • Minecraft 1.21.1 running on NeoForge

No other Minecraft versions or mod loaders are planned or supported by this project. The software is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later.

Configuration and troubleshooting

High-concurrency loading changes how assets load at startup. While this concurrency improves boot speeds, it can occasionally cause problems with specific mod setups.

If you encounter startup errors, crashes, or unusual behavior, check the configuration file before removing the mod entirely. You can disable the high-concurrency loading option inside the config file. Disabling that option keeps the resource-pack cache active while eliminating potential threading conflicts. You can also report reproducible bugs on the project GitHub repository.
