ThreatenGL

autor: Richy-Z

ThreatenGL forces Minecraft to request OpenGL 4.6 instead of the default 3.2, targeting newer GPU driver profiles for potential performance gains.

Nasze streszczenie

Co robi ten projekt

What ThreatenGL does ThreatenGL is a client-side mod that changes the OpenGL version Minecraft requests during graphics initialization. By default Minecraft asks for OpenGL 3.2. ThreatenGL injects code into that setup process so the game requests OpenGL 4.6 instead. The idea is that some GPU vendors ship different driver profiles for different OpenGL versions, and the newer profile may yield smoother frame rates or lower frame-time variance on supported hardware. The mod doesn't add rendering features, shaders, or any other graphical changes. It only alters the version string passed to the driver. ## Who it's for The mod is aimed at players running relatively recent graphics hardware who want to test whether the newer driver path improves their experience. But it requires a GPU that supports OpenGL 4.6. On macOS the mod requests OpenGL 4.1 because Apple deprecated OpenGL in favor of Metal starting with macOS Mojave (10.14) and hasn't updated the OpenGL stack since. If your hardware doesn't support the requested version the mod simply does nothing. ## Verified capabilities - Changes the requested OpenGL context from 3.2 to 4.6 (4.1 on macOS). - Works without any external library dependencies since version 1.3.2-beta.1. - Supports the Fabric, Quilt, NeoForge, and Forge mod loaders. - Runs on a long list of Minecraft versions from 1.17.1 through 1.21.11. - Client-side only; the server side is unsupported. ## Compatibility caveats - Early Loading Screen and similar mods that also manipulate the initial OpenGL window are reported as incompatible. The author recommends keeping Early Loading Screen and removing ThreatenGL in that case. - No effect on hardware that lacks OpenGL 4.6 support (Nvidia Kepler / AMD GCN or newer, or any GPU that received driver updates after July 31, 2017). - The author describes the project as an experiment; results vary by system and driver release. - Licensed under LGPL-3.0-only.
