What it does
Faster Particle Collisions cuts the work the game does for every particle. And it turns off the code that checks whether a particle should collide with a block and the code that calculates how light hits a particle. The result is a lighter simulation that runs faster on the CPU.
Who it’s for
If you play on a low-end machine or a server that spends a lot of time rendering many particles, this mod can help keep the frame rate up. It is useful when you don’t need particles to stick to walls or to behave exactly like the vanilla game.
How it works
The mod is a stripped-down copy of a patch that was once part of the Methane mod. It removes the collision logic entirely, so particles never try to stay on surfaces. That also removes the lighting calculations that normally give particles a subtle glow. Because the code is removed, the game no longer spends time on those checks.
Compatibility
- Loaders - Fabric and Quilt only.
- Minecraft versions - 1.20 through 1.21.1.
- Client side - required.
- Server side - not supported.
- Other mods - Lunar Client and Iron’s Spellbooks will crash or stop working when this mod is active.
Caveats
Particles that are meant to stick to blocks will no longer do so. Some visual effects that rely on particle collision or lighting may look odd or fail to appear. Here's the thing, mods that run code on particle collisions are unlikely to work correctly. If you need the full particle behaviour, use the Particle Core mod instead.
Installation
Download the mod file from Modrinth and drop it into the mods folder of a Fabric or Quilt client running a supported Minecraft version. No other mods are required.
Summary
Faster Particle Collisions is a lightweight tweak that removes particle collision and lighting checks to reduce CPU usage. So it works on Fabric and Quilt for Minecraft 1.20-1.21.1, but it disables surface-sticking particles and can break Lunar Client and Iron’s Spellbooks.
