What the mod does
No Chat Reports stops Minecraft from attaching cryptographic signatures to your chat messages. Without signatures, the game can't link sent text back to your specific client or your Microsoft account. The mod also disables player chat reporting.
It runs on Fabric, Forge, and Neoforge. Supported game releases listed on Modrinth are 1.20, 1.20.1, and 26.2. Installation on either side is optional.
Client and server setups
You can run this mod in three different ways.
When you put it only on the client, your client refuses to send its public key to the server. Your outbound messages lose their signatures. The server passes them through unless the server has enforce-secure-profile set to true in its server.properties file. If a server forces signatures on 1.19.1 or 1.19.2, you can't join without agreeing to send signed text. On 1.19.3 or higher, you can join, but you cannot run chat commands.
When you put it only on the server, players still send signatures to the host, but the server strips them before broadcasting text to everyone else. Chat reporting fails for all players who connect. Server owners can convert player messages to system messages in the config to stop unmodded players from seeing not secure tags. Here's the thing, since 1.20.2, a server can't turn off the unsigned warning on unmodified clients.
When you install it on both sides, clients strip signatures before sending, and the server doesn't check for them. Chat reporting and secure chat options stop working. Players see a notice that the mod disabled these tools.
Extra settings and files
When installed on the client, the mod disables telemetry.
All settings live in the NoChatReports folder inside your main config directory. The mod uses NCR-Client.json for client preferences, NCR-Common.json for server options, NCR-Encryption.json for client chat encryption, and NCR-ServerPreferences.json for per-server rules. Servers can also require connecting players to have the mod installed.
