What the mod does
ViaFabricPlus is a client-side Fabric mod created by florianreuth. It lets you join multiplayer servers running older or newer game versions from your modern game install. The project builds on top of the ViaVersion plugin.
The mod fixes client issues that the original plugin couldn't address on its own. It adjusts movement, block interactions, entity behavior, and graphics so older servers feel much closer to their original state.
Supported servers
The mod connects to servers across almost every historical era of the game.
Release versions from 1.0.0 to 26.3 are supported. Classic versions run from c0.0.15 to c0.30, including Classic Protocol Extension servers. Alpha builds from a1.0.15 to a1.2.6 and Beta builds from b1.0 to b1.8.1 are also supported. Support for new game updates is usually added within a few days of their release.
You can also join specialty test versions. Here's the thing, supported targets include Combat Test 8c along with April Fools updates such as 3D Shareware, 20w14infinite, and 25w14craftmine.
Bedrock Edition multiplayer is possible through an add-on called ViaFabricPlus Bedrock. That add-on is based on ViaBedrock and lets you connect to Bedrock Edition 1.26.20 servers and Realms. Some Bedrock features are missing.
Requirements and limits
ViaFabricPlus is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0. It requires the Fabric mod loader. There are no plans for Forge or NeoForge ports.
The mod is strictly client-side. It doesn't run on dedicated multiplayer servers, and it has no effect on singleplayer worlds. The result also does not support resource packs from older game versions.
On the client side, version 26.3 gets both feature updates and bug fixes. Version 26.2 receives bug fixes only. Minecraft versions 26.1.x and older don't get fixes or feature updates. If you prefer playing on older game clients, you should use the original ViaFabric mod instead.
Server safety
You should use caution when joining public servers. Some servers run anti-cheat plugins that can flag the mod as suspicious. The project can't guarantee that every server allows it, so you join at your own risk.
